Prevon vs Notion

Notion is a shared workspace built for teams, and its data and AI features run on Notion’s servers and its AI providers’. Prevon is a single-person notes app that encrypts every note on your device and is designed to run its AI there too — but it is in private beta, and Notion is a mature product you can use today.

Where Notion is the better choice

  • Collaboration. Notion is built for teams editing the same pages; Prevon has no sharing or collaboration at all.
  • Databases, linked views, templates and a large integration ecosystem. Prevon is a notes app, not a workspace.
  • Availability. Notion runs in the browser and on desktop and mobile today. Prevon has no public download yet.
  • Its AI is more capable at writing. Notion AI uses large cloud models; Prevon’s on-device models are smaller and do not write long passages for you.
  • Notion states that by default neither Notion nor its AI providers use your content to train models.

Where Prevon is different

  • Notion encrypts your data at rest and in transit with keys it manages, and it is not end-to-end encrypted. Prevon encrypts each note on your device with a key made from your 12-word Recovery Seed, which we never see.
  • Notion AI sends the content it works on to large language models run by third-party providers. On Free, Plus and Business plans, Notion says those providers may keep it for up to 30 days. Prevon has no cloud AI: its search and filing are designed to run on your device.
  • Notion requires an account. Prevon has none — there is nothing on our side linking a vault to you.
  • Notion works offline only for pages you mark as available offline, in its desktop and mobile apps. Prevon works offline because everything is on the device.
  • Prevon is in a private beta with no public download, and it has not had an independent security audit. Its encryption is designed so that we cannot read your notes; its sync is switched off and its AI features are in beta.

✓yes  ·  × no. Verdicts are read from each vendor's own published documentation as of , and describe the default setup. Notion encrypts data at rest and in transit with keys it manages; Enterprise workspaces can bring their own keys, which is not the same as end-to-end encryption. Notion AI runs on third-party model providers, and Notion states that by default neither it nor those providers train on your content. If any of this changes, it is on us to correct the page.

* Prevon’s sync is switched off in the private beta, so that row describes its design — today your notes do not leave your device. Its on-device AI features are in beta.

Which should you pick?

Pick Notion if you work with other people in shared documents, or need databases and integrations. It is very good at that, and Prevon does not try to be.

Pick Prevon if your notes are for you, and you want them encrypted with a key nobody else has — including the people who make the app. Many people use both: Notion for the team, a private notes app for everything else. Importing from Notion is one Markdown & CSV export.
