Does Notion AI read my notes?
Yes: when you use Notion AI, the content it works on is sent to large language models run by Notion’s AI providers, not processed on your device. Notion states that by default neither it nor those providers use your content to train models.
What Notion says happens to it
- Notion AI “runs on a mix of large language models”, reached through model developers or inference providers listed on Notion’s subprocessor list.
- On Free, Plus and Business plans, Notion says the AI provider keeps your data for 30 days or fewer, then deletes it.
- On Enterprise, Notion says most models it uses offer zero data retention; the few that do not are off by default.
- Training: “By default, neither Notion nor our AI providers use your Customer Data to train any models.”
And the rest of your workspace
Separately from AI, Notion encrypts your data at rest and in transit with keys it manages. It is not end-to-end encrypted, so Notion can technically access workspace content. Notion says staff access for support requires your consent, which expires after 28 days by default.
If you want AI that does not send your notes anywhere
Prevon has no cloud AI. Its search by meaning and its filing assistant are designed to run on your device, and notes are encrypted there with a key we never see. The trade-off is real: a small on-device model is worse at writing than the large models Notion uses. Is on-device AI as good as cloud AI?
Prevon is in a private beta and has not had an independent security audit. It is designed so that we cannot read your notes; until someone outside the company has checked that, “designed” is the accurate word.
