Is there a notes app that doesn’t train on my data?

Yes — several popular notes apps state that they do not use your notes to train AI models, including Notion, Evernote and Apple Notes. A stronger guarantee is a notes app that cannot read your notes at all, because then training on them is impossible rather than merely against policy.

What the major apps say

  • Notion: “By default, neither Notion nor our AI providers use your Customer Data to train any models.”
  • Evernote: it does not use your content to train AI models and does not permit third parties to do so.
  • Apple: your private personal data and interactions are never used to train its foundation models, unless you explicitly choose to help improve them.
  • Google: for Workspace accounts, content is not used for generative AI training outside your organisation without permission. For personal accounts, Google’s Gemini privacy hub says Gemini activity may be used to train generative AI models; it does not say specifically how Keep content is treated.
  • Obsidian and Bear have no built-in AI features to train.

Policy versus capability

Each of those statements is a promise about behaviour, and policies change — read the current version, and notice qualifiers like “by default”. An app whose notes are end-to-end encrypted with a key it never holds is limited by capability instead: it has nothing readable to train on.

Prevon is designed that way. Notes are encrypted on your device with a key made from your 12 words, which we never see, and the AI runs on the device. Prevon is in a private beta and has not had an independent security audit. It is designed so that we cannot read your notes; until someone outside the company has checked that, “designed” is the accurate word.
