Prevon vs Google Keep

Google Keep is free, quick and built into your Google account, and Google does not describe it as end-to-end encrypted. Prevon encrypts every note on your device with a key only you hold and needs no account — but it is in private beta, and Keep works today on every device you own.

Where Google Keep is the better choice

  • It is free, with apps for Android, iPhone and the web.
  • Quick capture, reminders, labels, colours and sharing with collaborators — all of which work today.
  • Integration with the rest of Google: Docs, Gmail, Calendar and the Gemini assistant.
  • Availability. Prevon has no public download yet.

Where Prevon is different

  • Keep notes are stored with your Google account, and Google does not describe Keep as end-to-end encrypted. Prevon encrypts each note on your device with a key made from your 12-word Recovery Seed, which we never see.
  • Gemini features that work with Keep send note content to Google’s servers. For personal accounts, Google’s Gemini privacy hub says a subset of Gemini chats are reviewed by people, and that Gemini activity may be used to improve Google’s services, including training generative AI models. It does not say specifically how Keep content reached through Gemini is treated. Prevon has no cloud AI.
  • Keep requires a Google account. Prevon has no account.
  • Prevon is in a private beta with no public download, and it has not had an independent security audit. Its encryption is designed so that we cannot read your notes; its sync is switched off and its AI features are in beta.

Which should you pick?

Pick Keep if you want something free that is already on your phone, syncs everywhere and lets you share lists with family. It is genuinely good at quick notes.

Pick Prevon if you want notes that are encrypted with a key Google — or anyone else — does not have, and search that runs on your device. Importing from Google Keep takes one Google Takeout export.
