Switch to Prevon
Import your Apple Notes into Prevon
Export your notes from Apple Notes as Markdown files, then point Prevon at the folder you saved them in. The text, inline #tags and the images your notes reference come across, and every note is encrypted on your device as it is imported.
How to get your notes out
What Prevon reads: Markdown (.md) files exported from Notes
- In Notes on a Mac, open a note and choose File > Export To, then pick Markdown. Apple’s guide describes exporting one note at a time.
- Save the exported files into one folder.
- In Prevon, choose Import, pick Apple Notes, and select the exported files, their folder, or a zip of them.
Unlock any locked notes in Notes before you export them. A locked note can come out of the export as an empty file, and Prevon can only import what the export contains.
What comes across, and what doesn't
Comes across
- Each note’s text, with Apple’s Markdown quirks (hard line breaks, emphasis) cleaned up
- A title from the note’s first line
- Inline #tags in the note text
- Images the note references, when they are included in the export
Stays behind
- Your Notes folder structure — Apple’s Markdown export does not include it, so Prevon does not invent one
- Created and edited dates, which the export does not carry
- Collaboration and sharing settings
What happens after you point Prevon at it
The import reads your export on your device and encrypts each note there before it is stored. Nothing is uploaded, and the original export is left exactly as it was — the import reads files, it never edits or deletes them.
When it finishes you get a report: how many notes came in, which folders were re-created, and every file it skipped with the reason. Nothing is dropped silently.
Run the same import again later and it updates the notes that changed instead of creating duplicates, so you can keep using your old app while you decide.
Prevon is in private beta.
There is no public download yet, so this import runs in the private beta for now. Join the waitlist and we write once, when Prevon opens to everyone.
