Do I need a cloud notes app?
You need a cloud notes app if you want the same notes on several devices without moving them yourself, or want to share and edit notes with other people. If your notes are mostly for you, on one or two devices, a local notes app does the job without a company holding a copy.
What the cloud gives you
- Automatic sync across phone, laptop and browser.
- Real-time collaboration and sharing.
- A backup you do not have to think about.
What it usually costs
In most cloud notes apps the company holds the keys, so a readable copy of your notes sits on its servers. That copy is covered by its policies, its security and its response to legal requests. End-to-end encrypted sync removes that copy; few mainstream notes apps offer it by default.
Where Prevon sits
Prevon is local first. Notes are encrypted and stored on your device; moving a vault to a new device is a direct transfer over your own Wi-Fi, by QR or pairing code. Ghost Sync — designed so the server only ever stores encrypted data — is built but switched off in the private beta, so today there is no sync between devices.
If you need real-time collaboration, Prevon is not the right tool, and we would rather you knew that up front.
Prevon is in private beta.
