Check a download before you open it.

Two checks, both free. Who signed it, and whether the file is exactly the one we published. Prevon is in a private beta, so this page covers the builds we hand to testers.

What a match proves

The file is byte-for-byte the one we published, and (on Android) it was signed by our key. Nobody swapped it on the way to you.

What it does not prove

It does not prove the code matches any source you could read. We do not offer rebuild-it-yourself proof, and we will not claim it until we can show it.

Android

The signing fingerprint

Every Android copy of Prevon, whether it comes from Google Play or from us directly, is signed with the same key. That key's fingerprint never changes between releases, so it is the one number worth remembering. Package name: ai.prevon.pie.

Direct-download file

We are not offering a direct Android file right now. The one we had needed Google Play to start, and a replacement is in progress. If you installed Prevon from Google Play, nothing changes for you, and the fingerprint above is what to compare.

On the phone (easiest)

Install the free AppVerifierapp (its maintainers recommend getting it from Accrescent, not GitHub). It compares an app's package name and signing-certificate SHA-256 with the values you give it. Give it ai.prevon.pie and the fingerprint above, and it tells you whether the installed Prevon matches. Its own instructions are at github.com/soupslurpr/AppVerifier.

On a computer (before installing)

With the Android SDK build tools:

apksigner verify --print-certs PrevonPie.apk

Look for Signer #1 certificate SHA-256 digest and compare it. That digest is the same value as the fingerprint above, written without colons.

The app is also signed with our Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS checks that itself.

A second proof that does not depend on this page

The list of every file in this release is not signed yet. The hashes above are still exactly what we published; signing it with our release key will add a proof that survives even a compromised website.

If something changes

Keys do not change quietly

A new release changes the file hashes on this page. It does not change the signing fingerprints. If a fingerprint on this page ever differs from the one in an app you have, treat the app as untrusted and tell us.

If we ever have to replace a signing key, the new fingerprint appears here next to the old one, marked as upcoming, before any build uses it. The same records are in release-trust.json on this site, and in the release folder on our download host. The download host serves the files, so it is the last place to rely on alone.
